Rivets & Rum™

So no sense in reinventing the captain’s wheel here people. Below you will find 10 of MY favorite summer-time cocktails. Most use rum but not all. I’m currently working on a more comprehensive collection of rum-only recipes for publication in the near future;)

  1. THE Dark & Stormy
I was first introduced to Dark and her beautiful friend, Stormy, on Cape Cod back on September 13, 2012. Yes, it was that good, lol. So my go-to recipe is Esquire’s. While I had Gosling’s up in Massachusetts, my dark rum of preference is Kraken. However, there is no substitute (in my opinion) for Gosling’s Ginger Beer;)
  2. THE Cointreau Margarita
It’s bar0none the best margarita on planet earth. My silver tequila of choice is Patron (and yes it IS worth the extra money to buy the Cointreau and not use Triple Sec.)

3. Malibu Paloma

If you love grapefruit and lime (and coconut rum) like me, then this is your go-to drink. It’s so refreshing, it’s hard to just have one. While the original recipe calls for salt, you can substitute sugar, especially if you line the rim with coconut flavored sugar;)

Of course, you’ll need to find your very own “Happiness Hotel” Muppets glassware;)

4. Perfect Storm (coming soon)

5. The Canchanchara

I love limes, plain and simple. And basically there is no rum, dark, light or golden, that doesn’t complement it in a glass. Use the link to learn more about this simple but sophisticated Cuban Cocktail;) I substitute New Jersey raw honey but if all you’ve got is the traditional Winnie the Pooh elixir, no worries;)

6. Rum Punch (coming soon)

7. The Hemingway Daiquiri

Use the above link to learn all about Mr. Hemingway and his favorite drink. Every day I learn more about rum and its roots. But I can honestly say I could have never dreamed up adding Maraschino Cherry liquor to a tropical drink like this Daiquiri, but it’s a ton of fun.

8. The Salty Dog

9. Grapefruit & Spiced Rum

10. Pina Colada – My Ways

Numero Uno is Spiced!

2 oz. Coconut Spiced Rum Cream by Blue Chair Bay Rum
2 oz. Coconut Rum (I prefer either Shipwreck Rum, Malibu OR Blue Chair Bay)
1 C Pineapple Juice

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add rums and pineapple juice. Shake. Shake some more. Now, pour, WITH the ice, into a fun highball glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and little paper umbrella.

Numero Deux is Not Spiced!

2 oz. Coconut Rum Cream by Shipwreck Rum
